A live selfie and a profile photo
Toba uses Didit to check that a live person is present and compare their face with the main profile photograph. This helps detect impersonation. Fraud checks may also use prior face records, blocklist matches and device or IP signals.
Verification is not an age, legal-identity, religious-affiliation or criminal-background check. A verified photo does not guarantee trustworthiness, intentions or safety.
Your choice before the check
Before starting, the app asks for your consent to Toba and Didit processing the live selfie and facial biometric data for the check and impersonation prevention. Please read the notice before tapping Start live selfie check.
The current app requires a completed photo check before discovery and messaging. You can decline to start and can request account deletion, but those features will remain unavailable. Contact support about a result, a consent withdrawal or an access concern.
The current photo-check workflow does not request a government identity document and has audio recording disabled. If you are offered a different workflow, read its notice before proceeding.
What happens during verification
- Use a clear, recent profile photo of yourself.
- If you choose to consent, follow the live-selfie instructions in the camera flow.
- Didit processes the capture, facial characteristics and related fraud signals. Toba receives a result and compares the live reference with your main photo.
- The result may pass, fail or require review. A failed photo comparison may offer a check of a replacement photo against an eligible recent live selfie, with consent. Other cases require a new live check.
Information used for the check
Verification involves selfie images, liveness video or frames, facial measurements or templates, comparison scores, device and IP signals, and verification results. Toba stores relevant images or video and results in restricted cloud storage for verification and safety review. Authorized reviewers may inspect relevant evidence; it is not displayed as part of your member profile.
Toba’s Didit organization has opted out of future model-training use of verification data. Operational verification and fraud prevention remain enabled.
Retention, deletion and withdrawal
Didit verification records from Toba’s existing beta have no automatic fixed expiry. The separate Didit setup prepared for public release currently uses Didit’s default two-year retention period, with facial biometric templates deleted alongside the verification session. Retention periods for public release are still under review; this describes the current settings.
Toba’s own stored selfie images and liveness evidence have no automatic time-based expiry and can remain until deletion is carried out. Didit separately applies its biometric retention and destruction policy, including purpose-based and applicable legal limits. Didit’s settings and policy do not themselves remove copies stored by Toba.
You can request account deletion in the app or contact support to withdraw biometric consent or request verification-data deletion. Deletion involves Toba and the provider and may continue after sign-out. Removing required verification data may prevent discovery and messaging.
Read the Toba Privacy Policy and Didit Verification Privacy Notice. For help or a review request, email support@tobadating.com; do not attach a selfie or identity document.
